Be like water
Removing the obstacles in your mind by going with the flow.
4 min
Water seems to be the matter that makes life on earth possible. It has baffled scientists for ages. When it freezes its density decreases, which makes ice float. It holds heat longer than it is supposed to. It dissolves more substances than any other liquid.
60% of the human body is made of water. We can live without food for days, but not without drinking water.
Water is in us, it is around us, it sustains and enables us. We are water.
Imagine flow
Water flows around obstacles. Imagine these obstacles are your thoughts, your programming. The things you tell yourself you are, that you should do or that you cannot be.
Becoming water means you can flow around your own obstacles and flow towards the ocean, a symbol of endless possibilities. Of tranquility and depth.
Sometimes your thoughts lock you in, like a dam blocks a river and an artificial lake forms. This lake is your mind. It is full and keeps filling up. Sometimes you manage to open a valve in the dam and let some of you out. But the lake, full of stagnant water, remains.
This lake is you, waiting to be released.
Focus on this vision and then start a micro meditation.
The meditation
For this micro meditation you sit comfortably. Center yourself by taking 3 natural breaths.
Then imagine being in water. Be in a pool, in the ocean, or a bath tube. Feel it around you.
Then imagine how that water is in you and is in touch with the water around you. Imagine the dam opening and you start flowing towards the ocean.
let it flow out with the next outbreath.
Be the water that nurtures, absorbs, dissolves, and cleanses. Feel its coherent flowing freedom.
Breathe out and sit and let this image linger in your mind.
To unpack your mind
Repeat this meditation for a few days. You can do this multiple times a day, even in a busy environment. While traveling on a bus or waiting for the train to depart.
Do it with light intentions.
The goal of any meditation is not to force yourself to do it.
Just be with it.
Your mind can be focused on a vision like the one in this water flowing to the ocean exercise.
Some would say you are thinking. That is fine. Let it be what it is. As long as it centers you, the meditation is already beneficial.
